How to Disable Norton components?
The Norton Antivirus software is one of the
oldest, most used and popular tool for securing computers against harmful
threats. There are millions of users using Norton software for protecting their
offline and online space when using digital devices. Among its core users are
many who have personal uses, and many who use it business purposes.
However, there are times when you would want to
disable Norton services for a while. The main reasons why users need to disable
Norton services are:
- Because it interrupts a completely secure app from
functioning properly.
- Because it gives pop ups and other notifications that
can be disturbing its users instead of making them aware of something.
- To prevent Norton from installation of software updates
such as those of windows and other software affected by Symantec
background activities.
Thankfully, Norton allows users to disable to
software temporarily. To disable Norton, please follow the below-mentioned
steps:
- In the bottom-right side of the taskbar, right-click
the Norton icon and click Disable
Auto-Protect.
- Now select the duration till which Norton will be
disabled from the drop-down menu and press OK.
Now, the real-time scanning feature is switched
off on Norton for the time duration set by you. Do note that doing the above
steps has only disabled real-time scanning, and not the other features such as
notifications and Firewall.
In most cases, only disabling Auto-Protect is
enough to help you solve any issues with applications happening because of
Norton. However, if you still want to disable other Norton components for your
own reasons, then read ahead to know more.
Disabling Norton Notifications
Please follow these steps to disable
notifications from Norton:
- Start Norton and open the My Norton window.
- Find and click the settings option on this window.
- From the settings window, find and click Administrative settings.
- Try to find a row mentioning "Norton Task
Notification". Once found, move the toggle near it to the off position.
- Apply your settings and close.
Disabling Norton Firewall

firewall:
- Open the Norton application, and select My Norton.
- From this window, click on Settings.
- In the settings window you will find the Firewall option. Find and click
on it.
- From the firewall window, go to the general settings tab and look for
a row with the option Smart
Firewall.
- Now move the toggle to the Off position to turn off Norton Firewall.
- Now you may receive a prompt to select the duration
after which it will be automatically turned on. Choose a duration you wish
and click Apply and then
press OK.
Disable Norton from running at Startup
Even if you disable the Norton Auto-Protect,
Norton Firewall and Norton Notifications as mentioned above, one or the other
thing from Symantec will keep running in the background unless you uninstall
the entire software.
But it is understandable if you wouldn't be
willing to do so, since an antivirus is incredibly important to keep your data
and your computer safe and secured.
However, there is still one method through which
you can stop Norton applications from running during Startup.
Please follow these steps to stop Norton from
running on startup:
- Go to the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Open the Startup
tab from the Task manager.
- In the startup tab, right-click all applications
related to Norton or Symantec, and select disable.
This will disable all Norton Programs from
running during or after startup. Restart your computer to test this setting.
Doing this disables Norton almost entirely while still having it installed.
It must be noted though, that the Norton
programs won't run only until you manually open one of Norton's applications.
Doing so might automatically start one or all of Norton's activities in the
background immediately.
By using these methods, you would be able to
disable all Norton components and use your computer without any interference
from the antivirus. But at the same time, it is also important to know that
your computer won't be secured from threats such as viruses, malware or
ransomware for the duration you'll keep Norton disabled.
So it is recommended that you enable all Norton
components again once your needs are fulfilled and you're sure that Norton
won't affect any important software and for more info: Norton Helpline Number.
